Katimavik Community
The Katimavik neighbourhood is one of the first established residential communities of Kanata located immediately south of the Queensway (Highway 417). Katimavik was first developed by Campeau Corporation based on the same garden-city style vision held by Bill Teron in Beaverbrook just north of the Queensway. this neighbourhood is also situated north of Hazeldean Road, west of Eagleson Road and east of the Jock River. Most of the homes were built between 1974 and 1994 with 70% being single family homes and 30% townhomes and semi-detached. The area around Chimo Drive has tree-lined streets composed of homes with wide lots dotted with globe-style lawn lamps. You will find parks and a network of pathways characteristic of the original vision for the area.
Katimavik offers plenty of activities to enjoy. Baseball diamonds, soccer fields, football fields, basketball courts, skate board park, tennis courts, play structures and splash pads provide many fun activities. Many of these and other outdoor activities can be found at the Kanata Recreation Complex. Nearby, the Sensplex offers 4 ice pads, an indoor training field along with other fitness facilities. The Kanata Leisure Centre and Wave Pool provides many other fun-filled indoor aquatic and fitness activities. The Kanata Recreation Complex also has a lit tobogganing hill and two indoor ice rinks.
The complex is situated at Walter Baker Park where Kanata’s Canada Day activities including evening fireworks are held every year. There is no shortage of shopping to meet your everyday needs as the area is home to several box stores, grocery stores and is in close proximity to Centrum Shopping Centre and Hazeldean Mall. Additional shopping, restaurants and coffee shops are found along Hazeldean Road and Terry Fox Drive within the community.
